Auto-naming clients with FQDN

After reading your great article on DNS Issues/resolutions, I was curious if your experience with DNS issues is generally resolved by just using the devices FQDN? If so, does the tool already try this in the background? or a possible option to think about?
Obviously the best answer would be to "fix" DNS issues at the source, but used to have an in-house tool we used to use which we always used FQDN.

Ken,
PDQ Deploy will use whatever name you enter, even plain old IP addresses. The next update changes how names are imported from Active Directory and PDQ Inventory to get the FQDN instead of the short name.
One other thing we could add would be a domain suffix to automatically append to short names when they are entered, similar to search domains used by the NIC.
