Deploying Acrobat Reader Patch

Giovanni Vecchi
asked this on Jan 10 06:25

Hi all!

I want to deploy Acrobat Reader 9.4.7 patch (.msp file): trying creating a new installer and giving the file path, it doesn't work.

Error: Program being patched is not installed

Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 is installed.

Any ideas? Thanks!

When installing Reader updates, you must follow the correct patching order. Read section 1.5.4 in the Enterprise Administration Guide: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterp...

The rule for patching reader is Latest MSI > ALL quarterly updates > Latest security patches. In other words, if you have Adobe Reader v9.4.0 deployed, you will need to deploy the following Quarterly updates first:

  • 9.4.2
  • 9.4.5
  • 9.4.6

After those are deployed, you can install the latest security patches:

  • 9.4.7

You can find the updates you need here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708.html

You download the updates you need here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&p...

Thank you so much for your answer!

Is there a way to deploy all needed Quarterly at once?

Thanks!

You could create a single installer with multiple actions. Just make sure the actions are in the correct order or else the patching will fail. But there is no way to chain multiple MSPs unless you are deploying a new Reader installation using the bootstraper installation method.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand: when I create a new installer, I can select only one file; how can I create an installer with multiple actions?

Thanks

In order to define multiple actions you need to be running PDQ Deploy Pro. The free version of PDQ Deploy does not provide the feature to define multiple actions.

To get a trial key for Pro you can register at http://www2.adminarsenal.com/try/pdqdeploypro.aspx

I would also recommend that you download the latest beta for PDQ Deploy 1.5. We are very close to releasing this version. If you want to try out the beta you can download it here. http://www2.adminarsenal.com?download-pdqdeploy. You can use the trial key that you receive from registering (link above)

I'm sorry Giovanni--I assumed you were using the full version. I don't work for Admin Arsenal, but Pro mode is definitely worth the money!

I know Pro mode is definitely worth the money, but at the moment my Company can't buy me it.

I'm really interested in PDQ tools new versions, but I prefer stable ones!

Thank you all!

I also recommend updating to the latest version (10.{1.3}). The executables are cumulative (you can install just the current version). Version 9 may provide this as well. There is an excellent blog on this site for how to install the executable.
