Install Failure - The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

What should I do when I get this error message "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

I see this from time to time on a small fraction of desktops in my enviroment. Is there anything I can do to fix this behavior?

-Forgive me if this answer was already posted. I searched the forum and could not find it.

Thanks

Where do you see the error?

In the Task - Install box

Example:

computer             State                         Status

Xjoespc              Error                          The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

Have you seen this error with more than one installer?

Yes - It doesn't seem to matter what I'm installing. It doesn't happen on all machines. I'd say maybe 4% of my enviroment.

Have you not seen this error before? I can send you a screenshot and any logs that might help you troubleshoot this.

Thanks

This is the first time we've seen this particular error. It sounds like there could be a problem copying the install file to the computer, and it's corrupt when it gets there.

Is it consistently the same computers? If so you can capture a debug log. Set an environment variable called AADebugLog to the value True then restart Admin Arsenal. The error should then generate some logging data into the application log, it should pinpoint exactly where the error is coming from.

Ok - I turned on the logging. The only thing that jumps out at me as being related is

Task InstallTask failed on computer WMW-189908.FHS.COM.

I'm sending you a a copy via email. Yes it does seem to be the same machines over and over again.

It appears that it may be a problem with WMI. Try running this command for your computer, it will isolate WMI from Admin Arsenal:

wmic "/node:WMW-189908.FHS.COM" process call create "calc.exe"

It should start the calculator without an error (you may not see the calculator on the target's console, depending on who logs in.)
